Kraken Co-Founder Backs Elon Musk, Says: We Need Him

Image
Dogecoin’s biggest supporter and CEO of X, Tesla, and SpaceX, Elon Musk, finds himself at the center of controversy again. The entrepreneur made some statements during the DealBook Summit The New York Times hosted. Elon Musk Supported By Crypto Community? In the interview, co-founder and former CEO of crypto exchange Kraken, Jesse Powell, shared his impression. Specifically, Powell spoke about Elon Musk’s approach to running the social media platform. Formerly a public company in the US, X (Twitter), was purchased by Musk in a billion-dollar deal presented as an attempt to “rescue freedom of speech.” During the DealBook Summit, the entrepreneur claimed the platform was “subjugated” to the US government. Furthermore, Elon Musk stated that this alleged control violated the US Constitution and its First Amendment. Musk said: The degree to which all Twitter was basically a sock puppet of the government was ridiculous. It seems to be that there is a severe violation of the first ame

Debt Dilemma: ZipMex Offers Creditors 3.35 Cents Per Dollar Owed In $97 Million Fiasco

Image
Zipmex, a Thai crypto exchange currently facing financial distress, has proposed a restructuring plan that includes paying its creditors a fraction of their original claims. According to Bloomberg, the exchange is offering its creditors “about 3.35 cents” on the dollar of their initial claims. This offer forms a key part of the company’s restructuring strategy as it grapples with $97 million owed to its customers. Restructuring Proposal And Creditors’ Response This restructuring proposal, while offering some relief, falls significantly short of the total amount owed. Zipmex’s move to offer such a percentage of repayment reflects its current financial challenges. The company’s CEO, Marcus Lim, has refrained from confirming the exact details of this restructuring plan but has noted discrepancies in the figures reported by the media. According to Bloomberg, major creditors of Zipmex have expressed their discontent with the proposed repayment plan. They call for an independent review

What am I doing wrong in calculating Merkle root of the block with only 2 transactions (block #99997)?

I want to learn how to calculate the Merkle root so I started from a simple example, a block with only 2 transactions ( block #99997 ). However, I ran into a problem. Mempool online block explorer says that the Merkle root of this block is: 5140e5972f672bf8e81bc189894c55a410723b095716eaeec845490aed785f0e . However, I am getting the different value. Why do we need additional secret value (k) in ECDSA?

Formula for calculating an ECDSA signature (r, s) is: s = k -1 (z + qr) k - private key for a random point R z - hash of a message q - original private key r - x(R) I am interested in why do we need two secret values ( k and q ) in a formula for calculating ECDSA signature? In other words, why we need one additional secret value k (and its public key - point on a curve) in additional to already existing one secret value q (and its public key)? Couldn't it be realized with only one unknown value ( q )? I found some answer here . The reason nonce is used is because you need to create two unknowns so that people cannot reverse engineer the private key from the public key. It seems to me that this is so that we have one equation with two unknowns (which is unsolvable). If only the original private key q is present in the equation, i.e. if it is the only unknown (without the additional secret k ), we would have one equation with one unknown, which is solvable. Image
In a recent announcement , Tether (USDT) and its sister company Bitfinex have declared their decision to withdraw opposition to a New York Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request filed by a group of journalists, including Zeke Faux from Bloomberg Businessweek.  The FOIL request relates to Tether and Bitfinex’s agreement with the New York Attorney General (NYAG) to pay a $18.5 million fine to settle a two-year lawsuit over the alleged mixing of $850 million of customer and company money. The company behind the largest stablecoin by trading volume stated that Tether had demonstrated its dedication to transparency through past actions, such as dropping opposition to a FOIL request made by Coindesk earlier this year.  However, the company stated that it is essential to clarify that “transparency does not imply an indiscriminate release of all documents,” as this approach would not align with standard business practices. What is an "empty vector" in Bitcoin?

Probably the lowest-IQ question ever, but what does empty vector represent in Bitcoin? Is it a single byte 0x00 (value 0) or is it literally nothing ("air") or maybe both depending on the situation? In BIP342, the following is written for OP_IF and OF_NOTIF : Consensus-enforced MINIMALIF The MINIMALIF rules, which are only a standardness rule in P2WSH, are consensus enforced in tapscript. This means that the input argument to the OP_IF and OP_NOTIF opcodes must be either exactly 0 (the empty vector) or exactly 1 (the one-byte vector with value 1). I assume that here empty vector represents literally byte 0x00 (value 0 ) on the stack, thus it is not an "air" (nothing). I have that assumption because if the empty vector here represents an "air" (nothing) then it would require totally empty stack to perform these opcodes. In the same BIP, for signature opcodes (OP_CHECKSIGADD, OP_CHECKSIGVERIFY and OP_CHECKSIG) and signature check it says that

Singapore Implements New Rules: Crypto Trading Restrictions Now In Effect

Image
According to a Bloomberg report , Singapore has proposed additional regulations to reinforce its stance against retail speculation in crypto assets. The new measures include prohibiting individual investors from borrowing to trade and disallowing digital payment token service providers from offering incentives for retail trading, as well as financing, margin, or leverage transactions.  The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced these regulatory changes in a statement on Thursday, expanding their scope to cover all investors, regardless of residency. Singapore Expands Crypto Regulations Per the report, the MAS will gradually phase in the expanded measures starting from mid-2024 to protect retail investors from potential risks associated with cryptocurrency trading.  The central bank aims to mitigate the impact of “high-profile crypto blowups,” such as the recent collapse of hedge fund Three Arrows Capital (3AC), by distancing itself from speculative activities in digital

This User Is Convinced Ethereum Playing Catch Up With Cardano: Here’s Why

Ethereum and Cardano are two popular smart contract platforms. While the latter is peer-reviewed and led by research, Ethereum enjoys a first-mover advantage and has the largest total value locked (TVL) if decentralized finance (DeFi) is a leading metric. What are the exact degrees of freedom in finding a valid block?

I am working on an educational project for bitcoin mining. I searched as much as I could but still haven't understood the following questions: What are the "exact" degrees of freedom in finding a valid block? (What exactly is the search space?) What guarantees that within those degrees of freedom (search space) a valid block "will" be found? More details about my questions: I know that a miner asks for a block template via "getblocktemplate" RPC command. Based on the "bits" field it can calculate the target hash relative to which the valid block's hash needs to be smaller than. I know over the course of mining, the network may create new block templates with updated info (for example additional transactions are added). So the miner can use the "longpool" feature to have the most updated version at all times. Moreover, the miner can "choose" which transactions to include in the next block. So they can exclude some

XRP Price When It Hits $1 Trillion Market Cap In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) platform, Egrag sounded really optimistic about XRP’s growth when he mentioned XRP hitting a market cap of $1 trillion. Although the analyst failed to give a particular price that XRP could attain, he seemed to suggest that the token could hit new all-time highs . He acknowledged the fact that the XRP price had witnessed some sort of “parabolic ascent” in the past when it apparently skyrocketed by 100,000%. However, he noted that what has happened in the past is nothing compared to what is about to happen.
