Inquiry about generating addresses from xpub of Electrum HD Legacy wallet and checking balances

I have an old Electrum wallet of the HD Legacy type, and inside it, I found the xpub (extended public key).

I heard that it’s possible to generate an unlimited number of addresses from this xpub linked to the wallet.

I would like to know:

Is this true?

How can I use the xpub to generate these addresses?

What are the best tools or methods to quickly check the balances on these addresses?

If I have the private key, how can I link it to these addresses for full control? I can provide the generated addresses if that helps with balance checking, and of course, I won’t share any private keys to keep everything secure. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance! If you want a more technical or casual version, just let me know.
