Using snapshot to sync node, will LND work?

Using Lopp's snapshot provided on his website I synced my node to chaintip. When I tried re-scanning my LND wallet, it encountered an error where it couldn't locate the block to start the re-scan. Checking the debug log for bitcoind I see a similar error. I assume this is because the snapshot doesn't contain the required information. I read on Lopp's site that bitcoin core will try and download the old blocks after it reaches chaintip, but I can't find evidence that this is happening.
