How to On Ramp BTC Peer-to-Peer as a Noob?

I am a noob, so far buying my sats from exchanges. But wondering how does the peer to peer market work? Do I have to find someone in the same city where I am (Hong Kong) or else have to bear the cost of international wire transfer?

Even after I find someone in the same city, do I have to either meet them face to face to do a cash for coin exchange, or else where is a degree of trust involved, right? I tried installing and using Bisq, but when I filtered by currency (HKD), I found no offer at all, do not know if it is because my settings were somehow wrong, or just the market is too thin here with barely any adopter (I know, HK is not like Switzerland or US).

And even if I found someone, how can Bisq (or any platform) make it trust-less? Any guidance or recommendation of a platform/group will be highly appreciated.
